Antibiotic Awareness Week 2018

A health crisis no one is immune to. Discover how you can become an antimicrobial stewardship campaign.

Antibiotic Awareness Week 2018

Each November, during World Antibiotic Awareness Week, we renew our commitment to the promotion of Antibiotic Stewardship and continuing education around antibiotic resistance (AMR). At Abbott, we are proud to participate in the Antibiotic Awareness Weeks and Days across the globe to raise awareness on the global threat of antibiotic resistance.

Antibiotics save lives. However, the persistent overuse and misuse of antibiotics in human and animal health have encouraged the emergence and spread of AMR.

To encourage best practices among the general public, health workers and policy makers to avoid the further emergence and spread of antibiotic resistance, it is important to establish antibiotic stewardship.

Antibiotic stewardship is the effort to measure and improve how antibiotics are prescribed by healthcare professionals, and subsequently used by patients. Improving antibiotic prescribing involves implementing effective strategies to modify prescribing practices to align them with evidence-based recommendations for diagnosis and management.

Become an Antibiotic Stewardship Campaign

Making targeted treatment decisions reduces inappropriate antimicrobial use — and the spread of resistance.

During this week, we will highlight the huge global health issue of Antibiotic Resistance to our customers, employees, and the general public. We will raise awareness that rapid diagnostics can guide targeted treatment decisions, thereby allowing healthcare professionals to make the right treatment decisions, reducing inappropriate antimicrobial use and in the long term reducing the spread of resistance.

“Test Target Treat” initiative is designed to raise awareness that rapid diagnostics can allow targeted treatment decisions faster than traditional methods. This enables healthcare professionals to make the right treatment decisions, reducing inappropriate antimicrobial use and in the long term reducing the spread of resistance.
