Each November, during World Antibiotic Awareness Week, we renew our commitment to the promotion of Antibiotic Stewardship and continuing education around antibiotic resistance (AMR). At Abbott, we are proud to participate in the Antibiotic Awareness Weeks and Days across the globe to raise awareness on the global threat of antibiotic resistance.
Antibiotics save lives. However, the persistent overuse and misuse of antibiotics in human and animal health have encouraged the emergence and spread of AMR.
To encourage best practices among the general public, health workers and policy makers to avoid the further emergence and spread of antibiotic resistance, it is important to establish antibiotic stewardship.
Antibiotic stewardship is the effort to measure and improve how antibiotics are prescribed by healthcare professionals, and subsequently used by patients. Improving antibiotic prescribing involves implementing effective strategies to modify prescribing practices to align them with evidence-based recommendations for diagnosis and management.
